Overview

Located in the heart of Pasila, the Mall of Tripla serves as a massive multi-functional center where parking demands vary between short-term retail visitors and long-term residential or office commuters. To address these varied needs, Harju Elekter supplied a mix of high-power and medium-power charging stations, all integrated into a unified, smart energy grid.

Challenge

The complexity of Tripla’s infrastructure required a system that could manage high electrical loads without compromising the building’s overall power stability. With nearly 300 charging points, the challenge was to distribute power efficiently so that every vehicle receives a charge while preventing peak demand from exceeding the facility’s capacity.

Solution

The solution centered on Dynamic Load Management. By utilizing smart controllers and specialized riser centers, the system monitors the total power consumption of the mall in real-time. It automatically allocates available electricity to the charging stations based on demand, ensuring that the infrastructure remains stable even when hundreds of cars are plugged in simultaneously.

Technical description

The infrastructure consists of a tiered charging hierarchy designed for maximum efficiency:

  • 138 units of 2 x 11 kW Elektra Design A1: Optimized for visitors and shoppers needing a faster charge during shorter stays.
  • 152 units of 2 x 3.6 kW Elektra Design A2: Tailored for long-term parking, such as employees or residents, where a lower-steady draw is sufficient.
  • 7 units of 400A Elektra Cabinets: Heavy-duty distribution hubs designed to manage the massive energy flow to the parking levels.
  • Dynamic Load Management System: A centralized intelligence layer that balances the load across all 290 points dynamically.

Outcome

The Mall of Tripla’s charging network provides a versatile and future-proof amenity for its diverse user base. By combining different power levels with smart management, the project achieved a high density of charging points without requiring a massive, cost-prohibitive upgrade to the main electrical grid.
